Ocean Safaris
Attractions and Activities in Plettenberg Bay
Ocean Safaris operates in Plettenberg Bay one of South Africa’s most diverse bays. Plettenberg Bay is a well known holiday destination and offers a variety of attractions and activities including Whale and dolphin watching.
Dolphin and Whale Watching in the Garden Route
Ocean Safaris in Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route offer two different types of Dolphin & Whale watching cruises: Premium Cruises (Close Encounter) and Discovery Whale Watching Cruises.
- Premium Cruises (Close Encounter).
The tour begins with a unique dry launch into the surf zone and ends with a ride straight back onto the beach. These are conducted on the permitted whale watching vessel “Fatboy”. This permit allows the licensed boat to approach whales up to 50 m. The whales may then move closer if they wish….
- Discovery Whale Watching Cruises
The Discovery whale watching cruises are run on boats which do not hold permits and are legally obliged to stay 300 meters from whales.
Garden Route Whale Season
Official whale season in Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route, based on the presence of Southern Right Whales along our coastline, runs between July and November… however, we are fortunate to have Humpback Whales between April and January. Brydes whales are seen along our coastline ALL year round
Plettenberg Bay Whale Watching
Ocean Safaris boats operate 3 times a day for Whale and Dolphin watching along the Plettenberg Bay coastline. Generally cruise times are 9.00am, 11.30am and 2.30pm, but we ask you to confirm this with each booking, as times do change according to weather patterns. There is adequate space on our vessels for each passenger to bring a bag and/or camera bag.
